Training someone to operate an excavator on a real job site means real risk, real downtime, and real cost, every single time. A VR simulator changes that math entirely.
Client
A company in the heavy machinery industry needed a better way to train operators on equipment like excavators, without the cost, scheduling difficulty, and safety risk that comes with training on live machines in the field. The client’s name is withheld at their request.
Challenge
Traditional operator training relies on physical machines, real job sites, and close supervision, all of which are expensive, hard to schedule at scale, and put a new operator in a real machine before they’re fully ready. The client needed training that was safer and easier to scale, without losing the realism operators actually need in order to learn.
Solution
We built a true-to-scale, interactive 3D excavator inside a VR headset, matching the real machine’s controls and behavior closely enough that trainees could complete a full pre-operation safety check, then operate the machine, driving, turning, and controlling the boom and bucket, using the same motions they’d use in the real cab.
Results
A Safer Way to Learn Before Stepping Into the Real Machine.
Trainees can now practice realistic operating scenarios without the cost, scheduling difficulty, or safety risk of training on a live excavator, giving the client a repeatable, scalable way to build operator skill and awareness before it counts.
Technical Details
Built in Unity with a high-fidelity, true-to-scale 3D excavator model, deployed on Meta Quest 2 hardware, modeling real-world machine physics and control mechanics for the cab, boom, and bucket controls.
Training Operators on Equipment That’s Expensive or Dangerous to Practice On?
If getting hands-on time with heavy equipment is slow, costly, or risky, we can help you build a simulator that lets people practice safely first.
