A leading global company in a highly regulated industry, headquartered in the USA, managing critical and sensitive information across a mix of on-premises systems and cloud applications and databases.

Challenge

The client had no secure way to connect applications across their public and private clouds, and every application was left to handle its own security individually. With access control systems and strict industry compliance requirements involved, that approach left too much room for human error in a place where a mistake could be costly.

Solution

We built a secure tunnel that encrypts data as it moves between services, whether they’re running in the public cloud, a private cloud, or on-premises. Rather than build something new from scratch, we used a proven approach to this exact problem, so every engineering team could rely on the same secure connection instead of solving it separately, over and over. Two teams worked in parallel, one setting up the environment, the other building within it, covering the full path from design through testing and release.

The client now runs a highly available, secure system that controls and monitors every connection crossing a boundary between clouds. It currently handles the communication of thousands of applications, exchanging millions of requests between them.

Technical Details

Implemented as a TCP proxy using decision-making sidecars to secure data as it crosses cloud and network boundaries, built for low latency, scalability, and no impact on overall performance.
